Does My Business Qualify?
The West Virginia Small Business Plan is designed to bring uninsured adult workers into the overall pool of persons who have comprehensive health coverage. Large numbers of the uninsured are working for small businesses.
Five criteria must be met for a small business to be considered eligible for reduced premium rates under the Plan. These were defined in Senate Bill 143, which created the Small Business Plan, and through rules and regulations mandated by the Offices of the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner.
Participating insurance companies may have additional stipulations that are pertinent to their coverage plans and underwriting policies. Remember – rates and any additional stipulations must be obtained from a local insurance agent who is selling coverage under the Small Business Plan. Final decisions, by the employer and employees, can be made after weighing all the options presented by the chosen agent.
